for Union County West End Fair
Hershey, Pennsylvania — Anyone who’s ever browsed the exhibit buildings at the Union County West End Fair has seen the many ribbons that are awarded to the various agricultural, arts & crafts and home & gardening exhibitors that participate during fair week each August. It’s nice to think about the fair in January in the middle of a colder-than-average winter. But don’t sigh, thinking that just because the hot, hazy days of August seem far off that nothing’s happening at the fair.
As a matter of fact, the fair has recently garnered some ribbons of its own. Participating in the 102nd Annual Convention of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF) and Pennsylvania State Showmen’s Association, held January 22 – 25 in Hershey, the Union County West End Fair brought home a first place award for its website, ucwef.com, as well as second place in the state for digital scrapbook, and a Zone 2 Achievement Award for Outstanding Accomplishments at its 2013 fair. PSACF, in existence since 1912, currently consists of 110 agricultural fairs, associations or societies across Pennsylvania that have as their focal point education and showcase of agriculture, horticulture, tourism and more for an estimated crowd of fairgoers that exceeds five and one-half million each year.
Picking up the PSACF website award is not only a source of prestige for the Union County West End Fair, but also personal satisfaction for the fair’s web designer, Peggy Shields, of Projects by Peggy, Inc. (www.projectsbypeggy.com), a web design and development and web hosting business based in Union County. In 2006, as part of a college project, Peggy created a new website and logo for the Union County West End Fair.
In addition to maintaining the website, Peggy helps with photography, flyers and the Union County West End Fair Premium Book. Being a long-time fairgoer, it was especially important to Peggy to design a site for “her fair” that went beyond making the grade on her college project to being a site that was one of the best. Now there is a PA State Association of County Fairs blue ribbon to prove it.
